RIGS negotiation workshop

Dear RIGS members,

Join us for a two-hour crash course on negotiation skills, with a special focus for graduate students and post-docs.

The workshop will take place on July 9, 10:00 AM, at Carson Auditorium. Spots are limited so please use this link to register.

Light breakfast will be at 9:30.

We will cover the basics of why you should negotiate (it pays off!) and the best ways to do it. We will also have a conversation about international norms and what it's like to be an international scholar in the US!

The negotiation skills could be applied to a broad set of situations, to help scientists negotiate things like:

  • A contract

  • Buying lab equipment

  • Lab space allocation

  • Equipment use and lab cleanliness

  • Starting a collaboration with another scientist

  • Co-authorship order on a paper

Dr. Solène Delecourt (Faculty Profile), an Assistant Professor at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, will lead the workshop. She holds a PhD from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and received a master’s degree in Economics and Public Policy from Sciences Po Paris and École Polytechnique.

Driven by a genuine love for teaching negotiations to diverse audiences, including MBA students, executives, startup founders, and scientists, she won the Cheit Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2024, her school's highest honor for teaching.

Her research has appeared in academic journals such as Nature, Management Science, and the Strategic Management Journal, and has been featured in newspapers like the Wall Street Journal. It has received funding from various sources, including the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Currently, she is an editorial board member of the journal Organization Science. Her work has won multiple awards, most recently the 2024 Wharton People Analytics Competition. In 2024, she was named one of the Best 40 Under 40 MBA Professors by Poets & Quants

We look forward to seeing you at the workshop!

Best,

RIGS team
